911 Data Entry Extension Instructions
Description:
The 911 Data Entry extension is to help a user updating
information for streets after digitizing them. Also, it has additional tools for managing
associated tables. Following sections will provide more information and procedures.
Before Using Extension:
You should have the followings loaded in the ArcView Project:
- Roads theme
(911rds.shp)
- Parcels theme
(Parcels.shp)
- Street Direction
Table (strdir.dbf)
- Street Name Table
(strname.dbf)
- Street Type Table
(strtype.dbf)
- Users Table
(users.dbf)
Loading Extension:
- Make sure that the
extension file (911_data.avx) has been copied to ESRI\av_gis30\ArcView\Ext32.
- Under File menu in
the ArcView application, click the (Extensions
) menu item.

- In the Extensions
Dialog, select 911 Data Entry.

- Click
OK
- A new Menu
911 Data Entry will be added to the Menu Bar for the View window.
- Click the
"Update Street Names" command to initialize the streets name table (see table
managment below).

How to populate data for new digitized Road:
- Click the
Begin Session command under the 911 Data Entry Menu
- A dialog will be
shown asking for a UserID.

- Select your
UserId from the Combo-Box and click OK. If your ID is not shown, refer to the table
management section for Users table update.
- Then, the
911 Data Entry Form dialog will be displayed.

- Click on the line
drawing tool shown at the far left of the dialog.
- Digitize a road
on the view with Parcels.shp as backdrop.
- Select the proper
road direction from St Dir Combo-Box.
- Select street
name from St Name Combo-Box.
- Select street
type from St Type Combo-Box
- Type the lower
left address range of the road in the L-Left text box.
- Type the upper
left address range of the road in the U-Left text box.
- Type the lower
right address range of the road in the L-Right text box.
- Type the upper
right address range of the road in the U-Right text box.
- Then, click the
Commit button to transfer these data to the attribute table of the
911rds.shp theme.
- Repeat this
procedure for each road that you want to digitize.
- To close the
dialog, click End Session command under the 911 Data Entry Menu.
Note: This tool can be used also to update data for an
existing road. To do so:
- Start the dialog
as explained above.
- Select the road
using normal ArcView select tool.
- Fill-in the
dialog with new information.
- Click
Commit button.
Tables Management:
This section provides maintenance information for the required
tables. These tables were not included as extension "Docs" because their
values would be reset each time the extension was loaded.
1.
Users (users.dbf): This table contains the Users names and IDs. To
update the table:
a.
Select Update Users menu item under the 911 Data
Entry.
b.
Update the existing information.
c.
If a new user has to be added, then from the Edit Menu click
Add Record.
d.
Fill in the required information (i.e. Last_name, First_name and User_id)
e.
To save changes, click Save Edits from the Table
Menu.

Street Names (St_name.dbf): This table stores street names. To update it, click Update Street Names
from the 911 Data Entry Menu. It will automatically extract street names from
the Parcels.shp theme.

Street Types (St_type.dbf): This table stores the street types. To update
it, click the Update Street Types from the 911 Data Entry and then
follow proceedures similar to those for users.dbf. This table has one field only
(i.e. St_type).

Street Directions (Street_dir.dbf): This table stores the street directions.
To update it, click the Update Street Directions from the 911 Data
Entry and then follow proceedures similar to those for users.dbf. This table has one
field only (i.e. Street_dir).
